Apparently, best-selling author and all around kooky lady Margaret Atwood has had it with traveling the world to sign copies of her latest hit novel. In a very Doc Emmett Brown moment, Atwood introduced her newly invented LongPen, which she describes as "the world's first long-distance, real-time, real pen-and-ink signing device".
The robotic pen lets her sign books anywhere around the globe and even picks up on the slightest hand movements. Atwood claims she'll still "see" fans at signings through a video monitor, who will watch two metal arms reproduce her signature at the same time. Hmm.
Isn't this kinda like just getting the DVD of the live show instead of actually going to it? Sure, it's a real signature, but from a robot hand. Um, not so much Margaret.
