Justice

Justice departments across North America continue the search for tools that will increase courtroom efficiency, expand services, and remain fiscally responsible, while ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

Different systems have been implemented to increase efficiency and cut costs, such as Bail Reform Projects, Video-based arraignment, and Digital Signature Systems. But in the case of Digital Signatures, problems can arise from their technical complexity, extensive integration issues, and security risks. And the Judiciary sometimes questions whether the acceptance of digital signatures could potentially derail proceedings.

Also, most Justice Departments are heavily dependent on paper-based documentation, including court orders, warrants, and affidavits, making digital signatures inappropriate and unusable in many circumstances.

LongPen Signature Solutions™ provide a legally approved method of applying RealWET™ signatures from afar, regardless of the distance between the signer and the document requiring his or her signature. All traditional, paper-based filing and storage methods are retained, making integration simple with LongPen™.

Whether for video arraignment or the remote execution of warrants, LongPen™ has a product that can improve efficiencies, cut costs, and extend services.

Who is LongPen™ for?

LongPen™ is for administrative staff in the justice sector who are dissatisfied with the current logistical problems associated with obtaining hand-written legal signatures.

Our product is the world's first video conferencing enabled remote signing technology, which provides the ease of digital signatures with the security of RealWET™ signatures. But unlike products from Verisign or Adobe, it is not limited to a digital solution as it supplies legal signatures to paper-based documents.

We have created the software, hardware and security technology necessary to provide long distance legal signatures, while fulfilling all compliance issues.

Product benefits:

  • Increases efficiency with remote warrant execution
  • Improves the safety and security of judicial staff by making possible the signing of legal documents without moving the accused
  • Reduces expenditure by minimizing the travel requirements of the accused, the judiciary, administrative staff, and police

Case study:

+ more
- less

Introduction:

A justice department wants to increase efficiency and minimize the number of judiciary required when coordinating large-scale, multi-jurisdictional police raids.

Situation:

The client is experiencing unnecessary costs, and increased complexity, due to the requirement of having multiple members of the judiciary attend police stations throughout the region in order to sign arrest warrant documentation. Additionally, the department is experiencing millions of dollars in police staff overtime due to the transportation of the accused from holding facilities to appear in court. While the department had deployed a video arraignment system, a satisfactory document solution has not been found.

Solution:

The client can deploy a LongPen™ Signature System in conjunction with their current video arraignment system. Savings would be realized in two major areas:

Video Arraignment: the client has no method for the accused to sign required documents for the judiciary. The LongPen™ system allows the accused to sign any documentation from the security of a holding facility.

Remote Warrant Execution: the client would be able to have on-call judiciary attend multiple police stations via video conference to hear evidence and use the LongPen™ system to remotely sign arrest warrants.
